Style: English Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A warming golden red glow beams right from the centre of this beer unveiling a clean aroma of soft caramel malts and a touch of dark fruit. The body is light and very easy, opening into flavours of grainy sweet toffee and very light hops.

Our Harvest Ale is brewed exclusively for the Neighbourhood Group, which includes the Woolwich Arrow, Borealis Grille Guelph & Borealis Grille Kitchener.

Like everyone else, I had this on tap at the Bow & Arrow. I believe the beer is exclusive to that location.

Pours a light amber with an off-white head. Although the head is small, it has good retention. Delicate grain and fruit aroma. Bland taste. Watered down grain and fruit with a slight hint of caramel. Light, watery body adds to the overall mediocrity, and there's very little in the way of carbonation. Drinkable enough, but why you would want to I'll never know.

Complements of Bow & Arrow anniversary party. Caramel colour, sweet malts. Drinkable but light on hops and thin mouthfeel. Lemon and maple syrup. Bitter aftertaste. Was not served overly carbonated at this pub, but is the complaint elsewhere. Mates gave it a pass. Another bland light Ontario.

On-tap at the Bow & Arrow in Toronto.

A: Light copper/amber with a touch of off-white head. Very little retention, no lace.

S: Grainy, spicy and an unfortunate hint of cardboard.

T: I found it quite grainy, perhaps this is why Ontario barley isn't usually used for brewing? The hops had a pleasant peppery-spicyness, but also a nutshell-like bitterness that I'm not particularly fond of (similar to Wellington's Special Pale Ale). Pleasant fruityness from the yeast.

M: Body is on the light side of moderate; carbonation is on the high side of moderate.

D: It's drinkable, but I'm not particularly fond of it.

Bow & Arrow's informaton:

Did you know that all beer sold in Ontario is made with barley imported from Western Canada or from other countries? It has actually been over 30 years since a beer was brewed with locally grown barley. Thankfully the wait is over. The Arrow Neighbourhood Pub Group, which has long promoted the environmental slogan, "Think Globally, Act Locally" (actually "Drink Locally"), has launched its own draught beer.

Harvest Ale is being brewed under license by Guelph's F&M Brewery. It is a very quaffable beer with a rich copper colour, full malt flavour and a perfectly balanced hop finish. Harvest Ale is a naturally made beer without any additives. And, yes, it's made with barley grown in Ontario. Enjoy the harvest in your next pint.

On tap at the Bow & Arrow.

Orange red with no head or lace to speak of. Fruity nose.

Light on the palate, quite thin bodied. Fruit and some grain to taste, not particularly hoppy or with any real malt presence. Almost sweet up front.

Passable, but not really memorable.
