an absolute ton of gluten free craft beer in scotland, i think their regulations on calling it that are a little softer, but this place appears to be all in on it, a range of clever sounding beers all gluten free, this is the only one i got to drink while i was over there, and its not amazing, but i think its neat that a demand for something like this exists to such a degree. this is actually pretty mild, almost under flavored, certainly underwhelming, and compared to a lot of other great beers i had also marketed as gluten free, a let down. part of it is the texture, its a little under carbonated and so fuller feeling even though the flavors are very light, not where i want my lager beers to be, this sags some. there is also a curious minerality that approaches metallic to me, especially when it warms up a little, it lingers in not a super flattering way. i had this with fresh and delicious seafood, and it didnt quite seem up for the quality of my food. a dullish yellow, off from clear, decent white head at first but it settles fast. nose is thin and kind of watered down, a little generic graininess and attendant sweetness, but its uninteresting, could use more hops for balance and dynamics, but its not bad, just plain. the flavor has a bit if a cheerio cereal dryness to it, mild the whole way, almost unresolved in the finish where some hops could play, or even a more flavorful lager yeast, but this just kind of sits there. id be real curious about the process here, i didnt love the drink and this seems less compelling than so many others we had that were like, also gluten free in addition to being interesting and delicious craft beers, not just gluten free, if that makes sense, and maybe this has zero gluten not just very little and thats why its like this, but with a name like stomp to literally stomp out the gluten as they say, i thought this might be more interesting, more polished up. not sure if this is good enough to build a business around or not, they have some supremely unique sounding beers in their lineup too, a shortbread stout and a thistle pale ale among them, perhaps those are the picks. hopefully find out next time i visit scotland, but this one didnt do it for me...
