L- Looks like a porter/stour per the Description^ though the lable states that it is an ale and it has depth and the rich weight of say a winter ale vs porter/stout. It's effectively black, though I get a glint of ruby red through the base of the glass if held to a halogen light. Pours with 3mm fine off-white head clearing to lacing.
S- Toasty and baked fruits, the latter reminds me of Xmas pudding.
T- Dark, toasty, puddingy quite rich, deep roasted finish with hints of coffee?
F- Blind-tasted I'd guess this as higher than 5.5%, that could be down to (IMO) a higher than expected sweetness which lends weight. It still has that 'higher ABV% zing' to it though, interesting, IDK how they manage to do that from 5.5%. The carbonation is a bit lower than I might wish for from a bottled beer, it's about what I'd expect from a pint drawn up on hand-pull in a pub. I suggest serving this well chilled, and tasting it over a while during which it can warm a bit.
O- Interesting how they get 'all this' from 5.5%. No rough edges. A little sweet for me, though my wife tried it and likes it.
Bought by my wife this week in Brighton, from Waitrose. 500ml bottle. BBE June2020. I see it's only the second rating in 5 years, so I'll restate the description on the lable: ABV 5.5%. A rich smooth ale with deep malty taste, subtle aromatic fruits and a bitter/sweet coffee finish'. Front of lable states 'Rich smooth ale'. Contains: Barley and wheat.
