Anniversary Ale
Marzoni's Brick Oven & Brewing Company
Style: American Barleywine
ABV: 11.20 %

Spoke to one of the brewers, they consider this a smoked barleywine.

Pours a hazed deep golden color. Little to no head forms. Aroma of sweet booze, faint smoke, honey oat bread and more booze. In the flavor, lots of malt sweetness, very slight smoke flavor, and heaps of alcohol. There is little to no hop character so the alcohol and sweetness come through huge. Full bodied with medium/low carbonation. Overall, this is a beast of a beer, and not hiding anything. Could be better with more of the smoke flavor, and a bit more bitterness.

Appearence: Poured a very nice reddish-brown with a nice off-white head. Left sheets of great lace down the whole glass.

Smell: Smelled very roasty and malty with huge caramel notes. No signs of of hops at all. Smells a little more like an old ale with the lack of a hop presence.

Taste and Mouthfeel: Tastes very nice with a huge caramelized malt taste. Again, as with the smell, no hops present. Very rich and creamy feeling in the mouth. A very complex brew that's just a little unbalanced.

Drinkability and Overall: A suprising beer from a rather new brewery. I just wish they would've aged this a little more before serving. It was a bit young in my opinion. But still a rich tasty beer.

Draught @ the brewery: Served in a 10oz. goblet. This one pours a cloudy copper color. There was some off-white head which left just a bit of lacing on the glass. Suprisingly mild aroma. There was some malt sweetness and alcohol. There was more to the taste. Sweett, with some alcohol. There were some dark fruits hiding down in there also. It could have been aged a bit more, but it was still very good.
