Served on-tap at the Allison Park, PA location.

Appearance: Dark brown, nice off-white head.

Smell: Very malty. Vanilla character with a slight fruit and roasty background. Nice complexity.

Taste: Very noticeable alcohol presence. A little fruity and roasty.

Mouthfeel: Medium-heavy body, light carbonation.

Drinkability: Despite the high alcohol flavor, this beer finishes pretty smooth.

Growler shared by santoslhalper, filled 1-31-2007.

Pours a nice, clear mahogany-ruby red, finger and a half of head, good retention, not a ton of lacing.

Smell is deliciously fruity, a little woody, with a lot of malt presence, some caramel.

Taste is also fruity, though not as pronounced as the nose would have you believe. There's a great brownsuger, toffeeish maltiness and a slight bitterness in the finish. Tasty.

Mouthfeel is quite smooth and a little creamy, medium bodied and slightly drying. A very light alcohol warming.

Drinkability is good, this is another tasty beer from Marzoni's, an easy drinker and a great one for a cold winter's night amongst friends.

I consider this to be a typical American brewed doppelbock. That is, a good beer but just not quite as good as the Germans do it. I probably need to drink a few more to make sure. Better than the standard beers at Marzoni's so be sure to try one when you see it on tap.
