650ml bottle - Alley Kat has brought back their chili beer, and this time it is one made on the base of their Kolsch, with the addition of red chilies. Given the name, I imagine that this was produced for the Dadeo diner (Po' boy becomes Pour boy, get it?).

This beer pours a clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, very loosely foamy, and rather fizzy dirty white head, which leaves essentially nothing in the way of lace anywhere near the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of fairly sharp and spicy generic chili peppers, bready and grainy pale malt, and not much else, I'm afraid to say. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, a further cereal sweetness, and a throat-pinching, chili-oil extract astringency (the typically good kind, however). Again, not much else has the temerity to shine through.

The carbonation is actually quite active in its palate-probing (when given the chance) frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and as smooth as your hot pepper tolerating tongue can muster an appreciation for. It finishes off-dry, as the base cereal malts struggle to maintain a semblance of balance.

Overall, I gotta that Alley Kat went big, instead of going home, with this one (I am reminded of the Thai Green Chili Aaiieeee Caramba! that they made for Sherbrooke Liquor store a number of years ago) - lots of fiery chili heat going on here. This would indeed go great with some gumbo from the aforementioned Cajun-style establishment.
