650ml bottle - the latest in Alley Kat's Double Dragon series, this time single-hopped with Triple Pearl, a new one for this reporter, incidentally.

This beer pours a clear, bright pale bronzed amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some stellar Swiss cheese profile lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, muddled domestic citrus rind, a further melon fruitiness, some indistinct earthy spice notes, and more leafy, spicy, and herbal green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy cereal malt, some black pepper and random spice rack edginess, mixed citrus and tropical melon fruity esters, and more weedy, floral, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-satiating frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and mostly smooth, but for an acrid hop thing that takes a chunk out of the mouthfeel quotient here. It finishes off-dry, the house malt and complex frooty malt presiding.

Overall - well, they've gone and procured yet another exotic hop strain to challenge our flavour nodes, I gotta say. This one is sort of different, in that it provides a weird bitter melon character, which has me kind of sitting on the fence. It's not bad, but I'm not exactly clamouring for more, if you know what I mean.
