A- This one pours dark brown in colour, and the clarity is good, as I noticed in the fall to the glass that it was not opaque, as most stouts are. The head is caramel in colour, starts out around two fingers in thickness and seems to lighten up as it settles, becoming more frothy and ending around a solid half finger layer over top the brew. It is too hard of course to see what the carbonation is like, but from the popping sound in the head, I'd say that it must be at least semi aggressive. The lacing is thick, foamy, and sticks to the inside of my tulip glass rather well....impressive! Overall a very decent looking stout!
S- There is a general smell of peanut butter powder dryness, along with some semi sweet dark chocolate....not super sweet, as in other PB stouts I've had, and I've had plenty of them over the years. There are underlying notes of unsweetened cocoa, coffee bean, dark toasty chocolate and/or black malt to balance things out, and the finish is Earthy, dry and grainy....even showing off muted notes of bittering hop leaf.
T- A very nice balance flavour wise between sweet, robust (in terms of the peanut butter), and dark Earthy malts. The PB is prominent, but more in the health food variety, while there are cocoa, dark bitter-leaning chocolate bar, medium roast coffee bean, perhaps leaning into a choco-covered bean, some malt char and a dry grainy finish that is mostly clean, yet leaves behind some lingering deep flavours, leaving me wanting to have more!
M/O- The mouthfeel isn't as full as a lot of stouts, however, this does not impede anything, as the carbonation is rather soft and allows the full flavours to coat the palate nicely. The drinkability is good here too, but I might want a second and them move on...the alcohol is low enough for this style and is certainly well hidden. Overall, Id say that this is a solid choice for those that appreciate the flavors of PB stout....it's like a PB bacon burger....either you like it or you don't....definitely not as sweet as most, but the character is there and you'll know you are enjoying one. I'd have this again!
