Props to joemcgrath27 for bringing this along for the beercation trip.
A - Pours a crystal clear golden colour, finger of head with solid retention and some sporadic lacing.
S - Grassy hop notes, fresh citrus rind and hints of buttery caramel.
T - Much like the nose, grassy hops, buttery caramel and sour citrus rind on the finish.
M - Medium bodied, smooth and insanely dry. Finishes like a sand pit.
O - Another quality DIPA from the best brew series going. My only qualm is the mouthfeel, but the flavour profile was stellar. Well worth seeking out.

Pours a one finger white fluffy head, clear smooth copper color body.
Big aroma of lemon, slight grapefruit, citrus, breadiness, leafy, and earthy notes.
Slight grapefruit and tropical notes on the tongue, backed by strong bitterness and big, big earthy, woody, piney and grassy notes. Bit of caramel malt sweetness to it, decently balanced, but a little bit on the bitter side. Leaves a dry bitter aftertaste.
Creamy and silky mouthfeel, decent carbnation. Feels a bit too heavy, but still well done.
A decent DIPA in the series this time. Maybe this hop isn't for me, but I could still feel that it was a nice job done.
Jul 24, 2013Big aroma of lemon, slight grapefruit, citrus, breadiness, leafy, and earthy notes.
Slight grapefruit and tropical notes on the tongue, backed by strong bitterness and big, big earthy, woody, piney and grassy notes. Bit of caramel malt sweetness to it, decently balanced, but a little bit on the bitter side. Leaves a dry bitter aftertaste.
Creamy and silky mouthfeel, decent carbnation. Feels a bit too heavy, but still well done.
A decent DIPA in the series this time. Maybe this hop isn't for me, but I could still feel that it was a nice job done.

650ml bottle poured into tulip 10/7/13
A clear golden yellow with a few little bubbles but they pump out a solid two finger foam that hangs around for ages leaving a couple thick partial tings followed by some spider web lacing, another good looking dragon
S lots of herbal and leafy hops, dried orange, lemon, and grapefruit peel, smells like something I'd make tea with, earthy with some bread crust, as it warms some citric flesh comes out with the dried peel and just a hint of spicy ginger
T some dry cereal to go with what I smell, dried rind has a little moisture and leaning more towards lemon, just a hint of pine and booze but fairly well concealed for 7.5%
M medium bodied and stops just short of creamy, faint heat and herbal tea bag lingering
O wouldn't be my first choice for a single hop DIPA but decent beer nonetheless, lots of rind and leafy herbal tea notes
not my favorite dragon but its good to get to know your hops and I can't think of another single hop Galena

650ml bottle. The latest in the Dragon Series of single-hopped DIPAs, this one was made with the Galena varietal.
This beer pours a clear, bright, pale golden amber hue, with two fingers of puffy, thickly foamy, cake-batter-esque eggshell white head, which leaves a nice array of limestone cliff face lace around the glass as it lazily sinks away.
It smells of bready, grainy, lightly doughy caramel malt, clean, though well understated orange, lemon, and grapefruit citrus notes, a certain mineral water flintiness, and further leafy, earthy hops. The taste is fairly bittersweet, fleshy orange and tangerine, pastry-quality bready malt, lemon-lime pie, a hint of edgy biscuit graininess, wet stone, citrus tea, and a mix of mild pine and fragrant deciduous leaves. Just a nip of alcohol warmth bubbles up with time.
The carbonation is decently assertive, and more than a fair bit frothy, the body a sturdy medium weight, and generally quite smooth, the Galena hop apparently not up for spoiling the party. It finishes off-dry, the doughiness of the malt holding fast, while the earthy lemon qualities of the guest star stalk about.
Another pleasant installment in the Dragon Series - this time the Galena hop plays it coy and reserved, meting out the citrus and earthy leafiness in measured doses. Maybe it's just me, but I find the malt better rendered this time around, which goes a long way toward my hearty recommendation of this. Maybe they should blend this one with the Green Dragon, and make it the U of A's or Eskimos' official beer.
