I visited Pivovar Český Krumlov yesterday for some lunch and beers and I was very happy with my decision to do so. This brewery is located on the site of several past breweries, in facilities that have been brewing beer for more than a century (although this particular incarnation only opened in 2016). The building is awesome, lived-in, and welcoming, with big high ceilings and a mix of communal and smaller tables; there’s antique brewing/serving equipment up on the walls, and overall it’s just a great vbe. You can’t see the brewhouse from the beer hall, but if you walk around to the back of the building, you can see it (there’s also a museum back there covering brewing in the town since 1560 or something like that).
Like a typical Central European traditional-style brewery, they only have a few taps: pale lager, dark lager (smoked, in this case), and a strong lager for typical Euro styles, but also a lime beer, an Amarillo pale ale, and a Citra pale ale for the less-traditional. The basic pale lager was really great, and the smoked dark lager was very interesting and quite good as well.
My wife and I had lunch there, and I had a goulash stew with horseradish and bread dumplings, and my wife had the beef broth vegetable soup, both of which were very good indeed. I highly recommend to anyone going to Český Krumlov that they visit this brewery if they have time!
