Poured from 500mL bottle into my Higgins Ale Works tulip. Best by 12/8/25.
Appearance: medium golden hue with a light haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam atop.
Smell: malt has a moderate sweetness, with a bit of a nutty character, but also some buttery diacetyl, which is an off-aroma in my book and not my favorite thing in the world.
Taste: definitely diacetyl in this one. Malt is lightly sweet and hops are kind of forward in the mix; not surprising given that this is a 4% ABV beer. But that diacetyl is just not working for me.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: just the other day I read an article that in Czech Republic (and thus possibly also Slovakia), consumers don’t worry too much about diacetyl — it’s just a thing nobody pays attention to. That said, I definitely pay attention to it and don’t like it. Modulo the diacetyl this beer is actually not bad, but it’s something I just can’t overlook.
