Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a black color with a one finger head of tan foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading to leave a bit of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strongest of a sweeter chocolate smell mixed with a little bit of roast and caramel. Along with the roasty and sweet comes other aromas of a light vanilla and a lighter smell of a bourbon nature.
Taste – The taste begins strong of a chocolate and roasted malt taste with a little bit of vanilla and caramel as well. The sweeter chocolate is joined by some caramel, enhancing the sweetness of the brew. AL the while some bits of roast and char balance out the sweet, all while a very light bourbon taste comes to the tongue. In the end the bourbon ups its presence a bit and with more roast and a little dwindling of the vanilla, one is left with a rather nice and sweet, but palatable and lightly boozed taste to linger in the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew average to slightly thicker with a carbonation level that is rather lower. For the chocolate/bourbon stout characteristics of the brew the feel is rather nice, and makes for a rather good sipping brew even though it is not super potent (at least I think) in abv.
Overall – A tasty stout overall with just a little hit of warming bourbon at the end to keep it more interesting.
