Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear deep golden color with a small head of white foam. The head fades quite quickly, leaving a touch of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is quite heavy of a caramel and fruity smell with the fruit begin a mix of citrus, stone fruits, and some tropicals. The tropics are of mango and papaya, while the citrus is of tangerine and the stone fruits are of peach and apricot. Along with these aromas comes a light note of a grapefruit and herbal smell and a touch of hay.
Taste – The taste begins with a drier, but moderately malty flavor with the malt being mainly of a biscuit malt. There is a decent showing of hop right from the start with a good hit of a herbal flavor paired with a bit of pine and grapefruit. Also from the start, is some light sweet, with some of the tropical fruits, caramel, and a bit of orange that was in the nose. As the taste moves forward, there is a decrease in the sweet and a slight increase in the hop. At the same time some light hay and grass and a bit of booziness join in, leaving one with a decently hopped and slightly more crisp taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is moderate in thickness and chewiness with a rather average carbonation level.
Overall – A rather nice drinking, not over the top, but flavorful and more old school double IPA.
