my first beer from these guys, sort of a last generation kind of beer, flavorful in thats its craft and malty and not macro and yellow, but refined not a whole lot better than a decent homebrew, which i suppose i mean as a compliment, this isnt trying to be cutting edge stuff, and it hits a little safe and generic, but a mass appeal thing that is likely elevated in a food context, on its own, its a little lighter than many takes on the style, light rust rather than deep bronze, lacks some richness and texture, but drinks quicker and pleasant overall, without really any wow factor at all. the freshness is the part i like the best, slightly rustic and nutty, a graham cracker note in aroma and flavor from the malt rather than a big sweet caramel and toffee and bready personality you usually find in these, i dont mind it being lighter, its just so light its almost missing something, and the lagering doesnt quite feel professional, slight astringency to this, more of that as it warms, less clean and quick than the best ones, but the lighter grain build is cool, there is some moderate hop balance, and i think the carbonation is pretty good. some minerality is present, some grassiness, light crackery character, baked without being cozy or real hearty or anything, drinkable but some refinement away from being a whole lot better. vienna lager is always in season, but i feel like this one reads a little more spring than fall with its minimal nature, not bad...
