I was surprised to see that now Aldi offers a Barrel Aged Stout for $11.99 for 4 16 oz. cans. Brewed by "State of Brewing" (Octopi) in Waunakee, WI. Pours a clear dark brown which ends up opaque in the glass. Small tan head dissipates fairly quickly and then re-emerges as a ring that leaves some lacing. Aroma has lots of roasted malts, vanilla, some dark fruit, and a hint of chocolate. Taste is sweet with a boozy but drier finish. Body is full with just enough carbonation. More flavors come out as it warms up. (Did I just detect some coconut, or is this beer making me tipsy already?). This is far from the best Imperial Stout, but worth trying, given the price.
