Dusting off their old rusty beer recipe, Abomination returns to their Nelson, Mosaic, Ariana, Pacific Jade, Motueka and Nectaron (shew!) combination of hops to rot this earth once again.
Laying on a bed of heavy sit, the opaque mashed-potato looking ale floats a dense banana cream froth. With the scent of much of those aromas decorating the nose, a firm scent of tropical fruit, citrus, stone fruit, pitted fruit, vinous and berries apply a scent that seems never ending. Creamy, plush and sweet, the early palate shows a densely packed taste of cereal, poundcake and honey with a heavy malt overtone.
As the fruit flavors fight through the stubborn grains, they eventually command the session with orange, pineapple, banana and mango in the leading hop flavors. As other flavors of grapefruit, papaya, passionfruit, kiwi, lemon, dates, peach, grape and gooseberries ebb and flow throughout the session, the flavors are a vast array of fruit cocktial. Trending spicy with hop bitterness and alcohol warmth, a botanical sensation of spruce, tea, hemp, verbena, lemon pepper and arugula provide a smooth but sharp late palate.
Full bodied, creamy and pillowy from start to finish, the ale finishes on the sweeter side of malty-dry and with a bitter-sweet finish. With a culmination of botanical gin providing a long afterglow, the ale simply has too many hop flavors that kinda cancel each other out. A greater hierarchy in individual hops would have made for a more memorable session.
