This one pours a fairly dark brown color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like caramel, almond, vanilla, and boozy breadiness.
The adjunct work is mercifully subtle on this one, which is great – as a good barleywine doesn’t really need adjuncts. The base barleywine itself is semi-uninteresting. It’s got some nice silky caramel, bready, and nutty notes, accentuated by the almonds and vanilla, but the flavor kind of falls off in the end – it’s a little thin, a little wispy, and doesn’t pack quite the punch you want the style to have.
This is silky and creamy, but a little thin on the finish, with very little booziness.
I enjoyed this one but it fell a bit short of what I wanted from it.
