Bottle into a 25cl Duvel tulip. Thanks to the kind soul who shared this at Knifestyle's birthday tasting.

A: Hazy honey-orange body under a voluminous, frothy, off-white head that slowly fades into a fine film. Looks a bit overcarbonated, but majestic.

S: Amazing, complexly fruity aroma. Vanilla, apricot, tangerine. Light funk. Amazing.

T: Starts out mild and malty, then quickly morphs into a rich, fruity, apricot-heavy mid-palate. The finish is bitter and dry - finally an indication of the hoppiness this originally had. Delicious.

M: Frothy, bubbly, light, lively. Way overcarbonated.

O: I was really excited to try this, as I've long been a huge fan of Hommage, the barrel-aged version. While this beer was way overcarbonated and the hops had faded almost entirely, it was deliciously complex and hugely enjoyable. Flawed, but great.

Cheers!

Another in the South Hampton Megatasting! This one courtesy of beerloca via Alex.

A - Dirty golden color with a big head that left behind some spots and stick.

S - Reminds me a bit of Orval. Sweet with a bit of citrus, also smells a little briny which was unpleasant. Healthy dose of yeast on the end of the nose.

T - Taste is primarily brett presented in a very "belgian" like manner. Nice funk and some balancing hop characteristic, primarily citrus, with a bit of lemon peel thrown in for good measure. Not bad.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O - This is not bad, although it is not a standout. Belgian IPA is a style for me that can go wrong quite easily, but this was pretty good.

Thanks to Beerloco for sending this for our Southampton mega-tasting. Served in a Heady Topper glass.

A - Slight gusher. Big persistent white foam that leaves behind splotchy lace. Hazed pale golden body.

S - Big brett aroma with plenty of tropical fruits, mustiness, light lemon, and more traditional Belgian yeast. Hard to tell if the fruitiness is from the Brett or from the hops. Reminds me of old bottles of Orval, or perhaps a bit like 3767.

T - Taste is tropical fruits, and malt. Less funky than the aroma, with a mild sour lemon and oak finish. Very fruity, and significantly less musty although there is still a little bit present.

M - Somewhat sticky, and nowhere near as dry as I expected. Moderate carbonation, and a medium-light body that seemed a tiny bit undersized.

D - This was better than I was expecting. Not sure if some of the other reviewers didn't get that it's more in the Orval vein than it is an IPA. I quite enjoyed it and would gladly have again, although buying Orval is likely easier and significantly cheaper too.

Southampton Mega Tasting!

A - Pours a golden yellow, white frothy head, thick cap and ring around the glass.

S - Smells like Orval, funky, Brett, light hops.

T - A good amount of funk, slight hops, orange peel, big Brett.

M - Light, frothy, crisp and refreshing.

D - Pretty darn good. I would def have this again, if offered.

Appearance: bit of a gusher; clear golden copper amber with a tiny amount of lacing.

Smell: Belgian yeasts and very faint hops with some very faint brett

Taste: yeast, faint hops, biscuit malts, white pepper and lemon zest. A bit sweet

Mouthfeel: A bit overcarbonated.

Drinkability: I wasn't crazy about this one, more tripel than anything else, I almost reviewed the wrong beer. Would not go after it again.

750ml bottle, thanks Jon! Pours into a glass and explosively rises with beige bubbles, no liquid to be found. Look is clear gold, head is massive. Nose is tropical fruits, fresh hops, and brett. Very reminiscent of Undead Ed or Wild Devil, but much lighter in color. Already seems like a really strange offering from Southampton. Quite funky on the nose, yeast seems very wild. More barnyard character than the other brett-IPAs. Thin and quite bitter in the mouth. Not really sure what to make of this. Not really offensive flavor profile, but the bitterness, fruits, and funk just don't go together very well. I don't want to totally write this off, but it's my least favorite of any Publick House bottle by far.

750ml pour served in a Duvel tulip - thanks for sharing, madvike!

A - Cloudy amber with a massive white head, visible carbonation, and very good lacing

S - Earthy hops, wild yeasts, as well as more traditional Belgian yeast

T - Lots of Brett & floral hops kick this off --> raspberry essence mixed with more sour yeast - at once palate wrecking and cleansing --> the finish is more of the same - mouth-puckering sour fruitiness (decent amount of lemon) with a touch of hop bitterness

M - Effervescent, light, tart

D - Extremely drinkable

I'm pretty shocked by the mediocre reviews on this. At a star-studded tasting, this beer stole the show for me. Brettanomyces & hops go together amazingly well, and this beer proves it. If you guys aren't fans, please send your extras to me. Seriously.
