Reviewed on 6/28/08. On tap at SPH. Pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of spices and clove. Flavor is spices upfront with a nice fruity (banana) finish. Full-bodied palate. However, after a pint of this, the spices started to annoy me. Ok hefe though.

Had at Southampton Public House. Bought a growler to consume on Sunday

Appearance: (combo of on-tap and growler) Pours a nice hazy gold color, which looks particularly appetizing in my Weihenstephaner hefe glass

Smell: Aroma is of yeast spiciness and some fruitiness(light banana).

Taste: Taste is a good mix of banana, spiciness, and some light malt sweetness

Drinkability: Highly drinkable. A great beer for a hot Summer day. This beer is well within the style. And the best American interpretation of the style I have had.

Not the richest hefe, but damned drinkable and still plenty complex. This is a great summer beer. Forget the local "summer ales," this is what a hot, sweaty day calls for. Its starts a touch creamy with light clove and banana spice and finishes with clean wheat and a hint of sourdough. Yummy.

This was one of the beers on tap at the Hop Devil/Belgian rm. for the STHMPTN night awhile back and this review is from my notes. This one poured cloudy light plum, nose was distinctly of bananas and cloves. Pleantiful ringed lacing and smooth creamy mouthfeel. Yum yum so far. Fruity, yeasty summer quafer, notes of vanilla, bananas, cloves. Wonderfully to style, and since its a wonderful style, gotta say this is yet another winner from the "out east" crew of brewers of STHMPTN. If you are lucky enuf to find this on tap , do not pass it by.

Served from a growler filled at half time.

Pours a hazy golden color with minimal head and lacing. Mild yeast and citrus aroma. Powerful lemon/citrus flavor that is supported by a spicy finish... a mellow banana/clove flavor presents itself as I make my way to the bottom of the glass. Extremely refreshing and perfect for a warm summers day.

my second sph brew and, while not blown away, i was not disappointed either. this one is solid '4s' all around. it pours a nice, slightly cloudy yet crisp looking golden colour. the head is a bubbly white one that actually dissolves fairly quickly leaving little to no marking on the glass. the smell is nice and full with spice and citrus, but also with a heathy dose of banana thrown in the mix as well. the flavour starts out with some spice and even a bit of dirt flavour which mixes in to the sweet and fizzy citrus fruit flavouring, finishing with some banana and a bit more spice in the back. the mouthfeel is just about right (carbonation could have been ever so slightly higher) and, with the low abv, this one would be a pleasure to drink all night long.

A dark cloudy gold showing signs of plenty of sediment. I was pouring from a Growler so I got little head. A spice and malt aroma greets the drinker. A fine mix of spice and malt with a bit of citrus in the back to give it a dry finish. The taste is a pleasant surprise after the supremacy of the citric tastes in most American offerings. The feel is oily and a little thick, but the finish is clean. I find this to be a great feel and you get it from some Hefe's. It could use a little more carbonation, but the lack may come from my sample being transported from Southampton to Western New Jersey so I won't say that's typical. This is a fine example of the Hefe's and matches up well with the German products as it gives much more of the malt and not the real citrusy taste most American Hefe's have.
