Distraction IPA is a juicy and hazy India Pale Ale, a hop bomb that delivers the bitterness without the bite. This brew features a smooth tasty melody of Cashmere, Idaho 7 and Mandarin Bavaria hops, that bring out the aromatic characteristics of Lemon, Pineapple and Mango flavors.

This was the first can that from Alewife that I picked up, as I found it at Greenpoint's new location. Of course, the label was a draw but it was nice to see another brewery pop up in Long Island City and thankfully, the liquid on the inside lived up to it's description as it was hop forward but at the same time, contained an interesting array that wasn't quite like anything that I'd had before.

Nothing too different or outstanding about this pour as it was golden, unfiltered, and topped off with plenty of foam. That slowly settled as there was a fair amount of lacing down the side of my pint glass, with much of it in a soapy web along the bottom half. Such an interesting aroma to this - lots of overripe tropical fruit, dank rind, and stone fruit in the nose as the taste was a funky mix of Hawaiian Punch, fruit cocktail, deep forest, and booze that was heavy but packed a nice subtle punch. Hints of lime, soda, and tangy mint emerged in the aftertaste as this didn't last in my pint glass for very long!

Not a lot of booze here but every drop could be felt as it complemented everything else that was going on. The malt was present, but recessed, as the carbonation was hardly anywhere to be found. There wasn't a date on the bottom of the can but there was some dark sediment at the bottom of the liquid as I had to swirl it out before finishing this off. It wasn't a deterrent but there was a lot of mango and weighty pineapple in that and on my palate once this was gone. This hop bomb of a different sort was an interesting take on a New England IPA that was almost on par with everything else coming out of New York right now. Glad I was able to give this a go!

Look: Cloudy peach with a nice foam top.
Smell: Right out of the can the smell was slightly skunked, but that improved after the pour. Citrusy and sweet, melons and candied fruit.
Taste: Orange and pineapple come to mind. Not too bitter or hop forward but good overall.
Feel: Typical of an IPA, good carbonation.
Overall: An OK IPA, I'd drink one again.

16 ounces, I see no dating info on the can.

Pretty typical NEIPA hazed up pour going on here, leaves some froth, and strands of lacing.

Some stone fruit on the sniff.

Better then respectable take on the style...tropical fruits, with some ripe pineapple and mango coming to mind, resiny hops in the finish.....worth a try.
