a really rock star pint of ipa right here, another good hoppy beer from pelican too. i have been back and forth on strata hops in different beers, sometimes loving them and sometimes left scratching my head by them, this is a great way to showcase them, and actually was an educational experience for me. i thought the hop profile was amazing, obvious grapefruit and a weedy element too, like a highly fruity sativa strain, and just impossibly fresh. i like it in a classic west coast style ipa too, where the malt profile is relatively minimal, balancing and adding body but letting the hops do the flavoring. i like it being oily and kind of rich in feel, and i like the bitterness in the finish. its made in an almost old school style now, but the flavors are new because the hops are uncommon in this context, at least in my experience. the freshness is awesome here, some lemon notes in the nose and a more intense flavor, green and new but not vegetal or overdosed. sudsy feel, nice carbonation, really drinkable beer. a classic american ipa with a neat twist from these strata hops. i think i like them as well in this sort of thing as i have in any other style. downright fantastic brew here!
