After a heart-pumping ascent of the sandy slopes of the Great Dune of Cape Kiwanda, reward your thirst with the potent hop flavors of Dune Climber. This West Coast Hazy IPA pairs well with sandy shoes and breathless panoramic views, and is the perfect prize after you climb 240 ft of vertical sand to the top of our epic coastal dune. This isn't your average beach walk, and this isn't your average beer-bringing you layers of aromas and notes of resiny pine, tropical citrus and heaps of dankness from the ultimate hop blend of Strata, Simcoe and Idaho 7. Dune Climber finishes with a pleasant bitterness and soft mouthfeel from a hefty dose of rustic Spelt Malt, making it worth every step to the top, for whatever mountain you choose to climb.

12 oz can from a six-pack, purchased from Roth's West Salem market. Salem OR
$11.99
AS expected, it pours a very murky, orange/yellow with an impressive thick and creamy head.
Tropical fruits in the nose. Mango, peach maybe papaya, but also some more traditional West coast floral and pine.
Good.
Taste is also a lovely mash-up of the two styles
, lovely soft fruit but with some real bitter grapefruit and even pine buzzing away underneath. Very interesting.
Great and well carbonated mouth feel. This one never lets out. Does not go flabby or sticky. Great stuff.
Very good beer and one of i dare say a new style that has been developing here on the Left Coast!

Look: Looks incredible for a Hazy IPA. However, you can see the carbonation throughout. Silky orange with a quarter inch head. Excellent retention.

Smell: Foremost is a tangerine, with bits of pineapple and clementine. On the back note is a very nice earthy pine.

Taste: immediate Tangerine flavor followed by a smooth orange juice feel, followed by a wonderful Hop bitterness. Perfectly incorporating both styles.

Feel: Upfront it immediately feels as an East Coast (Hazy) IPA, But is immediately followed by a strong Hop feeling on the tongue. Mouthfeel is a wonderful experience.

Overal: I sincerely hope this style because the norm. It is an incredible Hazy, fruit forward beer. However, labeling it as West Coast is correct as well, as the Hops and Bitterness align with that category so well. Overall this is an amazing beer, and will hopefully lead the pack in future beers of this style.

they call this a west coast hazy, which i hope actually becomes a thing, because this to me is a style commentary not just noting where its made. its hazy and dry hoppy yeah, but its also got some bitterness that i think i almost need in hop forward beer these days of any persuasion, i miss it more hazy types than i dont. this is straw colored, hazy almost milky looking, but has a solid head on it and smells really fresh, potent and a little different too, i dont know what hop varietals are at play here, but it seems like perhaps a combination of some higher alpha and pine leaning northwestern ones, and some lighter, more herbaceous southern hemisphere types, could be like a centennial and galaxy combo, a simcoe and rakau, something like that, notes of melon and lime and good weed, just a little green. the flavor is less dramatic than the nose, or rather less interesting, equally robustly hoppy, some lemongrass to it now, green tea bitterness thats not just on the finish but the whole way through, a new school hop juiciness like cashmere (just stabbing at possible varietals here), cantaloupe like el dorado, palate coating with some starchy grain beefing up the feel, but dry and well carbonated and fresh as can be so still relatively easy drinking as these go, just a little hop burn, not enough to turn me off or slow me down. overall very solid from pelican, who pretty much always hits, its unique for a hazy and not just because it packs some bitterness. well done overall, hope to check out their new location when i am on the coast this weekend!
