NuyoRican-Style Pilsner
This brew was crafted by NY Rican local native, Manny Calderon & inspired by the vibrant culture of the Puerto Rican people of NYC. "NuevaYol" is Spanish slang for New York. Crafted with Pilsner & Munich malt with noble hops. The result is a nice drinkable mouthfeel.

Poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a moderately hazy, light to medium golden amber with a fizzy, three finger head that dissipates to a thick persistent cap with light lacing. Aroma of pale malt with a little biscuit, citrus and grassy hops, lemon, hay; a little vegetal. Flavor is lightly biscuit malt, grassy and spicy hops, hay, fruit phenols and hints of root beer spices; lightly bitter. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess and sharp carbonation. A quite idiosyncratic take on the pilsner style. I could detect the pilsner malt and some grassy hops, but most of the flavor wa all over the place. Fortunately that space was interesting and pleasing to my palate. The oddest part was the root beer like spiciness, which I thought fit with the malt quite nicely. It is somewhat over carbonated that showed in the pour and tasting, but drinkable. I'd be curious what aspect of Puerto Rican culture is evoked by the flavors here. It's not nearly a traditional pilsner, but if this was in my market, I'd definitely get it again. I found it intriguing. This is one of those beers I'd hesitate to recommend as an example of its style, but as a result, am possibly underrating my enjoyment of it.
