Lowlander Brewing

I visited lowlander about a week after they opened to check out Seattle’s newest brewery. They’re in the former F.X. McRory’s space right by the stadiums in Pioneer Square. The space is very open with a long standing bar and several big communal tables — I think the idea is quick service and packing people in before/after football/baseball/soccer games. There are also many TVs, all showing sports. It’s definitely new and bright and shiny, with big serving tanks behind the bar (the brewery itself is in the basement). They have a kitchen (the brewery is owned by Seattle restauranteur Renee Erickson), and are also attached to a pizza place called Un Po Tipsy, which is where I sat after getting my beer at the bar, because all the seating was taken up on the day I visited.

They only had 2 beers on tap when I visited — an IPA and an Italian pilsner — reflecting how new they are. But, both beers were pretty solid, which exceeded my expectations for a brand new brewery. They also had a couple guest taps, a handful of bottles/cans, and wine and cocktails as well. I didn’t try anything from the brewery’s menu, but the pizza next door at Un Po Tipsy was pretty good.
