Comes in a brown half liter bottle with a label shaped like a shielf and featuring the brewery's name under the coat of arms (white unicorn on two legs in front of a red background) and the year 1881 (brewery's foundation year) in big letter. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 9/23/04, I opened it on 4/10/04.

Yup, it's gold alright. Clear gold under a one finger white head that sticks around a bit before settling to film and collar, which contribute some might fine sheets of lace well down the glass. The nose is all malt, barley rather than adjunct, but somehow lacking in verve and vigor. The mouth is well carbonated and slightly heavy with a certain tartness. The taste is all barley malt to open, with a touch of hops in the finish. The aftertaste regenerates the tartness, almost to the point of being lemon sour. I was hoping for more out of this one, but I'll finish it.
