Dark fruit and bourbon form the aroma. Prunes, raisins, and dates meet oak, caramel, vanilla, and booze. Smells rich and delicious.
Flavor is a bit different. Fruity notes are prevalent, with a bourbon backbone. Bruised cherry, prune, plum, and raisin dominate, with lightly charred malt finishing. Bourbon and oak are sandwiched in there. It's a bit thin, and there's some definite sherry oxidation going on. Interesting, but the oxidation comes with some cardboard, as well. Sherry and cardboard dominate, in the end. It was a mediocre beer going in, and I think I prefer it barreled, but not a standout.
