Blue Wax
Bottled 2015
Poured into a snifter
A- pours deep black in color with a small creamy khaki colored head that has great retention and leaves some nice lacing behind as it settles
S- aroma boasts plenty of sassafras, reminds me of a sassafras root pulled right out of the ground. Undertones of that classic B&L smoke pop out underneath the sassafras, along with hints of dark chocolate, caramel & bourbon. There is also a bit of a peppery notes, which perhaps is from the radish addition
T- opens with a hit of smoke, dark fruit and dark malts, immediately followed by sassafras, reminiscent of a B&L root beer. As it nears the finish, notes of caramel, ash, bourbon & oak close it out. The radish seems to leave a peppery vegetal linger as well
M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a velvety finish, abv hidden well for 13%
O- This beer definitely lives up to their name, and worked much better than I expected. Fans of sassafras/root beer would enjoy this variant
