750ml bottle with dark copper wax poured into a snifter. I think this is from 2016?
A- pours black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that reduces to a ring
S- that signature smoked malt dominates up front, giving aromas of smoked pork, campfire, even some peaty notes. Undertones of the barrel give notes of oak, raisins and figs, brown sugar, molasses and caramel. The aroma finishes with dark chocolate, char and anise
T- bold smoke still lingers around, even after years of aging, giving notes of campfire, peat and smoked meat. Mid-palate gives some malty sweet notes, complimented by the barrel; black strap molasses, chocolate, booze soaked raisins & figs, brown sugar. The finish brings out a hint of oak, along with more smoke and dark fruits, which stick around long on the linger
M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a silky, slightly warming finish
O- one of my favorite variants, the sweetness of the rum barrel plays well with the smoked beer
