At the tap room, pours a clear burnished copper red, hardly any head, into a chalice. Nose promises some bready Vienna malty goodness, and very faint woody smoke but I was hoping for more on that front....that’s about it. Taste is a bit of a step up...the pepper kicks in half way through and really livens things up, without totally dominating. 6 out of 10 on the peppery heat scale, which is about as far as I care to go. The pepper is welcome, and it is good as a complement to the malt base, but there’s no great harmonizing here, and in fact, without the pepper, this would be fairly blase. Also, I'm still left missing the smoke that would add something better.
