A purple waxed 750ml bottle with no clear bottled on or best before date, but should be 2016 vintage. Poured into a snifter glass.

Appearance: Dark dark brown to black in colour with a half finger tanned head that had decent retention and left nice spotty lacing.

Aroma: Light roast, chocolate, vinous, red grapes, kyoho grape jelly, with hints of bourbon sweetness.

Taste: Chocolate, cocoa, roast, sweet bourbon, grape jelly, red grape, red wine, vinous, and light booze.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall: At times it felt a little sweet, but I love the kyoho grape aroma in this. Unfortunately, all the smoked malts from the original seems to have been lost in all the bourbon, grape and vinous characteristics, but this was still an enjoyable sipper on a cool night.

750ml dark purple wax top bottle poured into a tulip
Bottled 2016

A- pours black in color with a bit of light creeping through the edges, one finger foamy khaki head reduces to a ring around the edge

S- aroma has a strong peat-like quality up front, if I didn't . know any better I'd say this was the scotch version. Notes of band-aides, campfire smoke, forrest floor, chocolate, anise. There's also a red-wine undertone with oaky vanilla

T- waft of smoke initially, quickly followed by a vinous red wine note, as well as smoked meats, blueberries and some port qualities, The finish gives notes of anise, smoked barley, and oaky red wine

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a slightly warming finish

O- this barrel treatment adds some interesting dark berry notes that contrast the smoke, good stuff
