A very good collaboration...

Picked this up and let it age for a year, I think I coulda left it aging for another, in any event, it was a very tasty and boozy affair. Nice dark looking beer with short-lived head, the smell was definitely booze -forward, but it had some malty hints to it. Mouthfeel was medium-bodied, taste was all roast and booze, and overall, I enjoyed it immensely on a lazy Sunday afternoon while grilling. Life just doesn't get any better...Cheers...

Look: It pours very dark brown wtith a dark brown head. Head retention is moderate.

Smell: Strong macademian nut aroma with roast and chocolate. There are very low levels of bourbon.

Taste: The flavors are strong with chocolate, cocoa and bourbon. There are macademian nut elements with caramel. It is a bit sweet from the sugar. As it warms, there are some cherry flavors as well.

Feel: It has a full body with a sweet finish.

Overall, a nice blend of elements and malts.

If you've ever met the brewers of Against the Grain or Magnanimous Brewing, then you'd know that they are all plain nuts. And now that they've got their shells together, a collaborative macadamia stout is in tall order.

Jet black and building a dense mocha creme, Nuts Boys swirls about the nose with a softer and creamier nuttiness that comes with the standard coffee, chocolate and toasted scents that accompany most stouts. A tingle of alcohol highlights the beer's imperial strength. Seductively sweet with its first sip, the session starts out with an abundance of molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla and candied nuttiness.

As the flavors shift, the sweetness turns more robust and savory, getting away from the heavy malt sugars and favoring more burnt toast, espresso roast, bittersweet chocolate and roasted nuttiness before tightening into a coffee praline character. With the rise of seemingly coffee-like bitterness, the peppery spice of alcohol aid in balance as the finish trends kahlua-like.

Full, creamy and plush with soft and nutty malt flavors, the ale is off-cloying and carries hints of alcohol driven dryness for balance and palatability. A long linger of candied nuts and kahlua largely frame the lasting flavors in aftertaste.
