An homage to the unbridled spirit of our home state of Kentucky. This ale embodies all the flavor and nuance of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Kentucky grown and malted barley gives this beer its light ruby color and biscuity sweet flavor, while the use of charred American oak provides mouthfeel, vanilla flavors with hints of baking spices. Enjoy!

16 oz can ($4.29) served in a snifter.
This is a well crafted BBA Red Ale. Both the aroma and the flavor reflect about equal impacts of the BB aging and the base red ale. This red ale seems to have a moderately hop load and a generous load of medium malts. It has low bitterness for the style.

Modeled after another popular Kentucky made bourbon barrel aged ale, Against the Grain says that they can do it better.
Simply names Bourbon Barrel Aged Ale, the Louisville based version pours with a honey amber, chrome and copper color. Lightly haze and capped with a slight off white cap, the strong scent of caramelized bourbon and its nuanced toasted oak, coconut, vanilla and caramel all drift across the nose in much sweeter fashion than actual bourbon. And that sweetness creeps onto the tongue, a strong carmel flavor laced with honey, toasted grain and toffee starts a malty-sweet balance. Lightly hopped for enough bitterness to take as light edge off of the otherwise cloyingly sweet balance, the session concludes with a warm whisky, bourbon nuanced taste with an extended bourbon aftertaste.
The beer is designed to celebrate the finer nuances of the Kentucky based spirit and Against the Grain delivers in true bluegrass fashion.

16 ounce can, no dating that I noticed on the can or label. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this one, I remember seeing it a lot when I was in Louisville earlier this year but never got around to buying it. Served in a Rastal Craft Master One glass, the beer pours a somewhat clear amber color with about an inch of so off-white head that stuck around a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like toffee, vanilla, bourbon, bready malt and some earthiness. Taste pretty much follows the aroma, but there's also some brown sugar and oaky flavors noticeable too. Barrel character is noticeable but wish it had more of a kick. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this one overall, wouldn't mind trying it again sometime!

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This solid little ale pours a moderately
luminous reddish amber with a moderate head of white foam that settles
to a thin ring, subtle dusty layer, and displays some light lacing. Nose of
faint bourbon, brown sugars, subtle vanilla, and light herbal notes. Flavors
hit the mark with light oak, more prominent vanilla, toasted malts, light
brown sugars, and a dash of herbal spice. Mouth feel is medium, medium
light carbonation, smooth, and finishing with a subtly dry finish.
Overall, a SOLID little brew!
Cheers
