One of the oldest styles of beer in the world, the history of hefeweizen goes back as far as the 14th or 15th century. And we say, when something’s working, just get out of the way. That’s why Henry Weinhard’s Northwest Wheat is made the traditional way, like Germans have been doing for centuries. Made with American hops and a touch of honey, this beer has a really incredible depth of flavor.

Another Henry Weinhards beer I positive I've had. I as I remember it had a light body and mouthfeel and was easy drinking with a different taste than the other beers I was drinking at the time.

I usually pour this beer into a pint tumbler.

It has a cloudy gold color, and is a nice looking wheat beer in the glass. The head is white and fairly thick, with some lacing.

The beer smells of yeast and wheat, with a faint citrus smell.

The taste is typical of a wheat beer and a little citrus like. The after taste lingers and is pleasant.

This is one of my favorite beers, particularly at this price point. I frequently find it at $8.99 for a half case, which I think is an excellent value. I enjoy Henry’s Hefeweizen year round, but especially in the summer, in a frosted glass on a hot day. I like to add a small slice of lemon to enhance the citrus flavor. Be sure and swirl the last inch or so of beer in the bottom of the bottle to loosen the sediment, and also at the end of the glass. With this beer the last swallow may be the most flavorful.

Brewed with Honey. Best by 02SEP12

Pours a honey golde with solid sheet of white foam. No lace and slightly too clear for a wheat IMO. Smells of flour, sweet wheat, hints of lemongrass and honey with a good dose of corn. Taste is sweet with Hawaiian roll flavors and a bit of candy sugar and grain. Like sweetened cream of wheat. Medium bodied with low carb for the style and a wet finish. Drinkable, approachable, and I can see why my pal who adores Blue Moon loves it.

Reviewed from notes taken 4/1/12. 12oz bottle into standard pint.

A: Very cloudy amber color with a single finger width of off white head that receded into a a thin cap. Not amazing.

S: Touch of hops and sort of sour smelling (like sourdough) and VERY yeasty.

T: Very yeasty like drinking pizza dough. Touch of grassy hops in just the right way. Not much else, a little light hops and the honey it is supposed to be brewed with is completely absent.

M: Medium-light body, not bad. Slight seltzer-like fizz makes it a little harsh but not bad.

O: Not bad, not amazing. On the good side of average.
