its still early, but these guys have a good thing going, a nice refresh to the old mad swede space, who always made pretty solid beers but just couldnt figure it out on the business side, at least from an outsiders perspective, a shame, but when one door closes another opens, and in this case it opened for a brewer with some experience at 10 barrel, which aint a bad place to learn the ropes. i think i was hoping for a little bit more exotic beers, like does boise really need another outfit doing basic easy drinking styles? to me that answer is a resounding no, but here we are anyway, golden ale, pilsner, milk stout, pale ale, that kind of thing, but all done rather well, especially for how new they still are. i loved the rice lager, really fantastic stuff, but the hazy is great too and the juicy ipa hits as well, they have some solid liquid, even if the golden ale and the dank pale have a little ways to go, the general level here is professional and high, not plucky upstarty amateurish, its much much better than that. the space feels new and clean, i dont recall the out front patio from the mad swede days, which is a nice addition. the decor is sort of national parks vibes, minimal but bright, branding is effective, and its both family and dog friendly in the taproom, which is kind of a necessity these days, sports on, but not a sports bar. service was solid, vibe is chill, and i think they are doing a nice job letting the beer speak for itself, an approachable list with something for everyone, nothing quite as ambitious as i was hoping for, but im sure that will come as they grow into it a little bit. for now its a good spot to have a low key several pints, the rice lager is borderline destination worthy, and i am excited about all thats to come here in the future, a good addition to the scene i think, good facelift for this location too, so far so good. will definitely add this to our brewery rotation!
