Aventinus has been known to be the most intense and complex Wheat-Doppelbock in the world. This was the case in the past, but not anymore... Recently, Hans Peter Drexler, Brewmaster at G. Schneider & Sohn, heard some stories about some extra special Aventinus resulting from some partial freezing during a cold winter transport in the 1930's. He decided to recreate this classic "mistake" to further concentrate Aventinus in a modern, controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock was reborn. Prost!

Pours a deep amber-brown with ruby highlights and a small tan head. Dark fruit, banana bread, caramel, clove, and a little alcohol warmth. Rich malt sweetness with raisin, plum, toffee, and classic weizen yeast spice. Smooth boozy finish. Full-bodied and creamy with a warming feel but surprisingly smooth. Big, malty, and flavorful. A really solid eisbock that balances sweetness, fruit, and strength well.

This is a wonderful beer. The scent of plum raisin, and molasses and they all come through in the flavor. This doesn't come across to me like a fortified hefeweizen if that's the idea behind the style. For me it occupies its own space.


Bottle says vintage 2017 released 2023.

Iconic weizen-eisbock. Complex, rich… Quite the enticing sipper. Total delight.

Presentation: 33cl brown capped. bottle. Old fashion label design in purple and silver with brewery logos and Aventinus-Schneider seals. They have included a character in the label in the slight redesign of recent years. Back label offers a small multilingual ingredients note, and a best by date of 19.11.2029. Shows 12.0% Alc. by Vol. Served in a tall oversized snifter.

A - Dark ruby brown pour with a monster wheat foamy head, fair retention, fair surface memory and light lacing.

S - Rich nose, plenty of dark dried fruit - plum, raising - crushed molasses, spicy dash… the nose is all there already.

T - Taste follows riding in synchronicity the nose flow. Wheaty notes are covered by the dark fruits. Those dried plums, the raisins, spicy yeast with a memory of light pepper and coriander… faint notes in the fading horizon of the yeasty banana notes and the caramel malts supporting the ride.

M - Medium-full body with medium carbonation, has a sticky bitter twang in the tongue linger… Nice boozy hint, does support the character, but it is not dominant and supports nicely the slow-sipping quality.

O - Quite an enjoyable sipper, certainly amplifies some of the character notes of the already iconic Aventinus, with even some added complexity.

Notes: Fifteen years have passed since my last formal review of this beer. And have things changed… I did like it significantly back then with a 4.35 over 5, and I have had it a few times here and there in the interim. Aventinus is a total classic, and Aventinus Eisbock is a beatiful treat. Iconic and classic, having this memorable staples available across quality venues worldwide is fantastic. Shout out to the Maltería in Móstoles, Madrid, who has ample rotation of Scheider Weisse offerings on their menus. And indeed, they even had it on tap a couple of month ago, and it was delicious. Wonderful on the bottle. Aventinus Eisbock is up there. It is.

Rich weizen-eisbock, unusual, tasty and hefty.

Presentation: 33cl brown capped. bottle. Old fashion label design in purple and silver with brewery logos and Aventinus-Schneider seals. Back label offers a note of the style, background, alongside a bottle number (2010 017737). Shows 12.0% Alc. by Vol. Served in a snifter.

A - Dark ruby brown pour with a large wheat foamy head that fades quickly leaving a minimal surface ring.

S - Spicy and yeasty with a pronounced fruity sense. Prunes, raisins...

T - Fruity notes predominate with a boozy undercurrent, dried plums, raisins, yeast and wheaty spicy touch with the good notes of banana and clove under caramel malts.

M - Medium-full body with medium/high carbonation, assertive tingle in the feel giving a nice rhythm to the intense flavor and masking a light sticky smoothness. Alcohol is there but very nicely woven in the brew.

O - Intense sipper, with a nice slow range.

Notes: Condensed Aventinus, what is not to like? If one does not mistake it for the regular version (sorry sis, it wasn't me. I wasn't there :P) this is quite a nice savoring ale. BTW, since they don´t mention and it is a relatively recent twist done by freezing the brew... Esibocks are not done according to the reinheistgebot? :P

330ml bottle poured into a Big Head's Belgian-style tulip

Pours a nice deep chestnut w/ reddish hues; tiny light khaki cap; profile is a combo of smoky caramelized sugar notes, rich bready malt, spices, and banana; well-balanced; minimal heat for the 12% abv; medium bodied; really nice, all the way around

(review from May 2022) Exceptionally well balanced & strong yet incredibly smooth for a 12%er with great palate heft and complex fruity-malty-banana-clove-plums-raisiny/dates flavors plus a wonderfully lighter but mouthcoating finish. Gets more strong as it warms up!

Pours a dark burgundy with a finger of off-white foam. Aroma is fig, toffee, and dark fruits in a dense, heavy blend. Toast, caramel, and earth malts mingle with a little spicy and sticky hops. Flavor profile is sugary sweet notes mingled over dark malts. Notes of dark fruits, caramel, and toffee collide and blend with roasty, toasty, and earthy malts. Some light sticky hops add some extra zest. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a frothy, slightly silty texture. Overall, really great. Huge depth and breadth without being hot from the alcohol.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a bottle. Vintage 2017, released 2023. Purchased & consumed 11/13/2025.

Copenhagen 13/2 2019. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Rødovre Centrum. Very purple version of Schneiders usual design.

Pours murky deep copper with very big chunks of yeast whirling about. Small white head. Bubbly. Settles as thin patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma is sweet and boozy. Dark fermented and very sweet fruit. Malty caramel. Lighter sour notes in the background. Almost vineous presence of alcohol.

Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily texture.

Flavor is heavy sweet bordering on being sugary. Followed by a moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and boozy. Light alcoholic burn.

A good strong Eisbock which manages to be quite pleasant while not being shy about an ABV of 12.

Dark brown color. Aroma of raisins, figs, brown sugar, and yeasts. Rich flavor of dark fruits and candy sugar with a hint of alcohol. Light alcohol bitterness at the end.Warming finish and aftertaste.

330ml bottle in my bar in the Alps. Pours a brown, foggy color with a slight foam rising. A bit of lacing is left behind as the foam dissolves back into the body. The aroma has notes of caramel, malts, and sweet fruity raisins and plums. The taste is an enhanced version of the aroma, with a fuller body and all the flavors mentioned, complemented by a 12% alcohol content. Very well done. This is definitely a heavy-bodied beer; I noticed it on the first sip, but it sits well. It's not very acidic compared to most beers, but it is certainly a robust dessert beer.

This was a lovely experience. I'd recommend sipping it slowly with family or friends.

Wife got me the bottle back in Nov. 2023 we let it sit til march 1st 2025. Let me say if you can, let a few bottles sit back for a while. The taste is amazing it really built the flavor even more than a fresh bottle. Will definitely do more bottles of different types this way. I normally don’t let stuff sit around lol
