For golden moments by the fireplace: "Mein Aventinus" - the wholehearted, dark ruby coloured wheat beer, intensive and fiery, warming, well-balanced and tender. Bavaria's oldest wheat "Doppelbock" - brewed since 1907! Its sturdy body in combination with its sweet malty aroma is an invitation to profound indulgence - an ingenious blend with a strong body. Perfectly matches rustic dishes, dark roasts and sweet desserts.

Hops: Hallertauer Herkules.

Copenhagen 29/7 2016. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. A lot going on the label with a Founder surrounded by gold medals, the brewery and something that looks like a lump of gold hemorrhaging blood.

Pours hazy dark reddish brown with a white head. Stable. Settles as a patchy thin layer of foam. Moderate lacing.

Intense aroma of banana, oak barrel and alcohol. Hints of citrus.

Strong carbonation and thick creamy palate. Soft, smooth, almost flat texture.

Flavor is medium sweet followed by a light bitterness. A little bit of dark alcohol in the aftertaste - without being boozy.

Very nice, well-balanced and pretty muscular wheat beer.

500mL can pours a cloudy deep ruby reddish-brown with a thin cap of off-white head . Smells of candied fruits, dark malts, fruitcake, molasses, booze, spice, and sweet fruity yeast. Tastes richly of dark and red fruits, juice, spice, slightly funky-fruity yeast, fruitcake, molasses, caramel, and toffee, with an appreciable but not overpowering alcohol flavor. Full-bodied, moderate sweetness, restrained bitterness, smooth, slightly sudsy mouthfeel, mild alcohol heat and flavor, and a long, fruity-boozy-yeasty-sour finish.

This was a very good beer, and I really liked how strong the fruit notes got without bringing an overpowering sweetness. I would definitely consider buying again. Very rich and complex, but I would have to say I still prefer the Vitus weizenbock offering from Weihenstephaner.

S - Dates, chocolate, melon and wheat "twang"
T - Follows nose, rather malty sweet and boozy. Cereal, barley tea and tangy wheat on the finish.

Somehow has less going for it than the smaller version(Mein Original)? Too much tangy wheat and chocolate and not enough grain and ester flavors for my liking. Clove is missing altogether which is odd.

The 16.9 fluid ounce brown bottle was opened and the entire contents were transferred into a clear glass liter mug. The pour produced plenty of just-off-white foam, but it's not as excessive as many wheat beers. Enduring, the foam rests on top of a solidly dark brown liquid that's not dull, nor bright. At least, when the foam recedes, it does so evenly. This smells much more like a yeasty wheat beer than a typical Doppelbock. It's weird to smell a brown brew that has the astringency and almost metallic character of a wheat beer, instead of the rich sweetness of something with roasted barley malt. This tastes much more like a Belgian beer than a true German Doppelbock. The esters are pronounced to the degree that they dominate the flavor. Unfortunately, there's no counterbalance of sweet malts, nor biting hops to give this some pleasant complexity. Although the body runs thinly, no surprise from a wheat beer, the significant ABV is nicely delivered. There's even some nice glass lacing to enforce the notion that this is a well-crafted brew. But, to truly appreciate this one, loving wheat beers is prerequisite. Do not expect a remarkable hybrid of typical German Doppelbock and Weizen styles, or disappointment will ensure. Overall, it's not bad for a wheat beer, as long as you can tolerate those banana-like esters.

Pours a dark, hazy red-brown, with an exceptionally tight and creamy buff head. An immediate hit of molasses and malt on the nose, with a yeasty warmth that brings some wintergreen and mace - also slight tobacco, and apple and blackberry. On the tongue there's a flood of coppery yeast, with orange and cinnamon and a long syrupy finish. The mouthfeel is exquisitely silky, without being overly sticky.

From a can into a beer glass. A murky brown/mahogany colored pour with a ruby tint. The foamy head dissipates after a few sips and leaves little lacing.
Aroma and flavor are of chocolate caramelized malt, muddled fruit, cherry and banana. Subtle spices of nutmeg, cloves, coriander are present. The Hallertauer hops bitterness is low, the alcohol is well hidden.
A very good Weizenbock.
