Carefree, light pleasure: "Meine leichte Weisse" - the wheat beer with less alcohol but full aromatic wheat beer flavour. An ideal choice for that moment in between, at lunch-time or in the afternoon. Its refreshingly tangly note offers delectable, delightful moments, suitable for any occassion - and certainly a crowning finale of your day.

A hefeweizen from the brewery that saved hefeweizen:
BOTTLE: Purchased at Getranke Oase in Munich. Brown glass. Branded white pry-off crown cap. Classic iconic Schneider Weisse blue & white label. 500ml format. Best before: 19.11.16. Bottled: 19.01.16.
Served cold into a weissbierglas in Munich. Expectations are high given the brewery, which makes some beers I really adore (and some of the best beers in all of Germany, as far as I'm concerned). Reviewed live as a leichte weisse per the label.
Brewed with Hallertauer hops (of course) and Saphir; according to the brewery's websites all hops used are in pellet form (no extract). 50% wheat malt, 50% barley malt. 8 IBU. 3.30% ABV. O.G. 7.8%. Brewed since 1986.
HEAD: Quite healthy, occupying ~80% of the glass. Beige colour. Great froth. Flocculent. Soft-looking, suggesting a creamy refreshing brew. Messy inconsistent lacing sticks to the sides of the glass as it recedes. Good execution overall. Retention is good, though not as amazing as you'd expect given its scant 3.30% ABV - ~8 minutes.
BODY: Dull and muted, actually. Hazy to style, with a yeasty turbidity. Colour is a dirty yellow.
Appears well-carbonated, but overall it's not very appealing - which is a shock given the brewery behind it. It isn't the vibrant, refreshing looking hefeweizen one would hope for. I'm optimistic nevertheless.
AROMA: Faint lemon. Wheat. Barley. A hint of bubblegum and reticent banana. Biscuity yeast.
It's a muted aroma - not the vivid expressive estery character I hoped for. This is shaping up to be perhaps my least favourite Schneider beer...
TASTE & TEXTURE: Has a muted reticent taste and something of a dirty vibe. Mouthfeel is light but unrefreshing, and some may find it borders on watery. Obviously, there's no alcohol warmth or anything. Smooth, wet, light-bodied. A biteen thin. Has a weak overall presence on the palate. I'm surprised Schneider Weisse brewed this; it's criminal for a hefeweizen (especially one billed as Leicht) to be unrefreshing.
Taste isn't much better. Muted reticent lemon citrus, run-of-the-(grain?)-mill wheat, simple barley. The malts don't seem particularly fresh. Even the yeasty esters are quite shallow - some bubblegum is actually all I pick upon; no banana here. I can't say it's balanced and I'm not very keen on it, to be honest. What a disappointment.
OVERALL: A rare miss from a brewery I'm used to nothing but hits from. This would be the last beer I'd reach for in Schneider Weisse's lineup. I walked in expecting to love it, but the execution just isn't there. The brewery may be world class, but this individual beer is unfortunately not. Maybe it's better fresh on-draught, but I wouldn't purchase it again to find out. I'm not sure what happened here, but it's certainly a below average beer within the hefeweizen style generally speaking - and it's quite poorly done in terms of Munich-brewed hefeweizen biere. Drinkable for what it is, but not the insanely downable-by-the-gallon stuff I expected from a 3.30% ABV hefeweizen from one of the greatest producers of the style in the world.

Rather impressive for what it is. Light and refreshing, goes very well with asian cuisine.

500ml bottle. Mindestens haltbar bis: 04.12.11.
It pours a light gold with a bit of haze. The head is fluffy and white.
The smell is mild with some wheat malt and clove.
The flavor is mild and mostly clove and water with some biscuity honey.
Its not that great.

.5L best before 12/4/11. Not retired.
Pours a cloudy straw-yellow with a decent bubbly head. Retains well, some patches of lacing.
The aroma has a touch of lemon fruitiness and a nondescript yeast character.
The flavor is thin and boring. Slightest bit of yeast and bread flavor, but unsatisfying. No fruity or banana-like tones, though there's a lame sort of acidity there. The mouthfeel is too light and watery, so the gassy carbonation just makes things rather soda-like and rough.
This is a wheat beer for people who don't like wheat beer. It tastes like lightly yeasty, vaguely tart water. Disappointing that Schneider includes this stuff in their lineup of otherwise excellent wheat beers.
