A traditional Porter, once enjoyed by laborers across Western Europe. Inspired by the poem of the same name, this “pint of plain” is truly your only man. Notes of baker’s chocolate gives way to undertones of spice from added rye malt and noble hops. Satiating and dangerously drinkable, perfect after a hard day of work.

On draught at the brewery. Served in a Willi Becher glass. It is a very attractive pour: a dark walnut with a finger cap of light khaki-colored head and lots of thick, elegant lacing that lasted through the pour. The fragrant smell includes freshly-brewed coffee, dark chocolate, nuts, leather, and earthy char. This is a classic Porter: Lots of acidic coffee, bakers chocolate, tobacco, roasted nuts, and bitter char. It finishes decidedly bitter and has great depth of flavor. For its 7% ABV the mouth feel is quite viscous with mild carbonation. Overall, Workman's Friend is the epitome of the style. Although the ABV is probably higher than what workmen would drink, the flavor is superb.
