Carlsberg Elephant is a so-called ’Bock Bier’, brewed for the first time in 1959. The ample use of malt gives Carlsberg Elephant a vinous and rich character with apple, melon, banana, and caramel flavours balanced with a dry bitterness and hints of oak, bark, nuts and pine needles. The colours is pale gold with white foam.
The elephants on the beer’s label are inspired by the two pair life-size elephant statues, which form part of the main entrance to the Carlsberg Group’s headquarters in Copenhagen.

Bad taste. Not like any Pilsner I ever had. I was looking for something different and boy I got it. Avoid it.

Dark amber with a spew of foam on opening the tall can. Dated 07/07/26 which might be a "best by" date. This is really sweet with a taste like stewed apples and prunes. At first I thought it was devoid of hops, but after a few sips a ghastly aspirin bitterness emerges. And then some peculiar chemical fruitiness comes up from the underworld and spoils whatever pleasure there might have been. This is truly awful and my first drainpour of Spring.

Hadn’t seen this before. Picked up at my favorite East LA liquor store that has a lot of random crap. A weird beer. I’d say it tastes a bit worse than regular Carlsberg, but not that different. Slightly more bready, with a boozy aftertaste. A bit of banana/gasoline, Iike cheap white rum. It’s basically Carlsberg with more alcohol. That’s all.

Copenhagen 1/6 2015. 50 cl can from Netto. A worried looking Elephant is taking a walk on the front of the can.
Pours clear yellow with a white head. Dissipates fairly quickly leaving a thin, patchy layer of foam behind.
Aroma is quite malty and sweet. A little sharpness from the alcohol and some sourish grains Sweet pale malts, bread and alcohol.
Medium strong carbonation.
Flavor is sweet and grainy and quite heavy with alcohol. Aftertaste is heavy sweet. Finish is a bit boozy.
That this was considered to be a classic for many years seems like a mystery today. But you get a decent hangover.

Much more flavorful & malty than most euro lagers (helped by the higher alcohol content) but still has a hint of skunky, funky Heineken finish. There's better available.

Poured from large can into a narrow imperial pint glass: color is gold, clear, effervescent, head is off white with fine to small bubbles, head dissipates to solid top with spotty lacing.
Smell is adjunct and corn forward, but deeper malt and slight hop notes come through with warmth, subtle vinous qualities, straightforward noble hops.
Taste is more adjunct forward malt with subtle fruit and hops - notes of apple, vinous, earth, grass; definite Helles Bock qualities with a heavy adjunct malt base.
Mouthfeel is moderate/strong carbonation, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness.
Overall a slightly deceptive beer - labeled as a pilsner but described as and reminiscent of a bock (helles style) in delivery.
