At the insistence of countless innkeepers, restaurateurs and consumers, Carlsberg has chosen to relaunch Gamle Carlsberg Lager under its original name and label from 1882. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in the story of Carlsberg's oldest product.

Copenhagen 22/5 2016. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Bryggervangen, Kbh. Ø. Very old school label - I expect it is a copy of an old original label from back then you spelled Copenhagen "Kiøbenhavn".
Pours clear dark amber with a white head. Settles as a thin layer of foam. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is sweet and of caramel and malts. Lightly toasted.
Light carbonation and watery palate. Lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is caramel sweet with a light bitterness for balance. Aftertaste is lightly sweet and not particulary long.
I am not sure I buy the whole premise of old recipes - but it’s pleasant enough and more interesting than a "Modern Carlsberg".
