fantastic beer, a random send from my brother that sat in my garage in an unopened baby gift for a couple of weeks, had no idea it was in there, legend! my first from this brewery and its both ambitious and mighty well executed, a new zealand pils with spruce tips, nelson and motueka hops apparently, i think thats awesome. blonde yellow beer thats nice and clear, short but airy white head on it from the can, racing carbonation. aroma of white peach, green melon, high thiol white wine grapes, like when phantasm was hot, the spruce is subtle but recognizable, fresh and woodsy and springy and botanical and real compatible with these hops, tight and green, appreciable pils malt and lager yeast underneath it all, its actually somewhat mellow, definitely balanced, tastefully done on both the hops and the spruce, respectful of the base beer, i like that. the flavor is wonderful and indeed the hops and spruce tips work wonders together, notes of verdant melon rind and twangy kiwi fruit, green pinecone, emergent and distinctive, not yet too essential oily or bitter, picked at just the right moment and perfectly dosed in this, sauvignon blanc for sure, meyer lemon, just a little bit of hop kick at the end, citrus wash, white florals, delicate the whole way despite all the layers of flavor. well grounded by fresh crackery pils malt, near neutral lager yeast but just a little bready there, and just off dry. the body is very light, the fruity and vinous hops dance on the tongue with the fresh spruce, and the whole thing is gone pretty fast, pushed quickly by the high carbonation, and refreshing and kind of addicting. one can would have turned into five if i had them, and overall its a heck of a first impression of this brewery, clever and brilliant beer really, thanks to my brother for the surprise beer mail! cant wait to try more from this brewery when i get the chance, super cool beer right here!
