No canning date. Old style wide mouth opening - for easy drinking on the lake I suppose.
Semi hazy, yellow gold in color with an effusive, tall white head. Spatters of big bubble lace trails down the glass.
Smell is off - sharp and sour with some citrus hop notes. Cascade, Mosaic and Lemon Drop hops it says.
If not for the IPA "New England Style" on the label I would have called this a Saison from the color and nose. I kinda like the aroma- but not in an IPA.
Flavor is also off a bit - sharp citrus - actual lemon drop candy flavor with only a hint of the sweetness.
I'm not sure this is what the brewery wants me to taste. They do list almost 20 variations on this particular beer so.... maybe it is supposed to be infected-like, but somehow I doubt it.
Body is thin and spritzy, dry and astringent on the roof of the mouth, harsh in aftertaste with a lingering sourness.
Ultimately a drain dumper. I gave it a 8 oz chance and my mouth is not happy with me.
My score is kind no matter how you taste it.
If this is how they want it to taste, it's a better Saison or hybrid than an IPA but certainly not a good IPA hazy or otherwise. I would guess this sat on a hot truck for a while or their wild ale yeasts and bacteria found their way inside this can.
