Helles might be my favorite beer - at least in 2022-23 for sure, and not without a reason. I just love its refreshing simplicity, it can never go wrong. Just like this helles, this one is also spot on.
However, I need to say that there is nothing like German Helles. But when it comes to different nations, just like this one being a helles from Austria, things start getting a little bit different. German helles has a trademark and more or less most of them taste and feel the same way. At the same time, Austrian, such as this one, bring in their own taste to the game. I could not pinpoint what it was but obviously there was a distinct taste to this one, unlikely of the German ones. I did like that taste though so I must admit, even helles with a different taste are also magnificent.

Found in a grocery store on the edge of the Austrian Alps, not far from the brewery. Standard brown half liter bottle sports a blue, gold and white label with a coat of arms above the name. No ingredient information. Best before 3/7/08, I opened it on 3/20/08, but it doesn't seem to have suffered from the expiration.
Pours a clear yellowish gold under a one finger snow white head that fades quite quickly to just traces of film across the top, leaving no lace. Very mild nose with a touch of rust to go along with the bready malt. The mouth is very light and quite prickly. Nice smooth taste full of sweet grain, accented by a mild dry bitterness. The hops don't last long, leaving bread as the dominant aftertaste impression. Nice rendition of the style.
