Bought this beer directly at the brewery in Ried. This beer was brewed first to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Rieder brewing cooperative. It comes in a half liter swing-top bottle. I poured it into my new Rieder Bier half liter glass beer mug with handle.
The foam is fine white and fine with the occasional coarser bubbles. I poured two finders of foam that reduced slowly to a thin layer. It leaves a nice lacing too.
The body was initially a clear golden, but as this is a Zwickl, I swirled up the sediment and poured it into the glass to give a perfectly murky body of orangy yellow color. Not much carbonation visible.
Smell is of pilsener malt, banana, yeast and something sour
Starts a little sour followed by a pale malt sweetness and ends on a bitter note that is not perfectly pleasant and a subdued metallic yeast character.
Little Carbonation and yeast create a smooth feel, which could be even stronger in my opinion as that is what makes this style so pleasant to drink.
Overall a decent example of the style but with some unpleasant aftertaste. Could be smoother. On the other hand, this is pretty complex for the style.
