A 12 oz bottle bought from the local Gourmet Spar.

Its a pretty straight forward pale lager, golden hues, marshmallow head, slightly sweet aroma. Hops, as mentioned earlier, are well tucked behind the graininess of the malt, some mild tang and grassy notes. Sweeter than some of the other Austrian Märzens out there. Mild in flavor, easy to drink several, but not a beer that one could imagine making an evening out of. Too sweet and unentertaining.

Found in a Vienna grocery store, this standard brown half liter bottle features a white, red and gold label with little more than the name. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 3/13/07, I opened it on 10/31/06 - a Halloween beer.

Pours a clear slightly darker than standard gold under a two finger white head with nice contour and enough stickiness to generate some initial lace. The nose is interesting, more straw than grain, plus a significant spiciness reminiscent of mint. The mouth is very prickly and light. Very mild taste profile here, with a touch of caramel amongst the bready malt. The hops are hidden well until deep into the aftertaste, where they lurk as a vague spicey bitter sensation. This is a pretty nondescript but utterly drinkable brew. I wouldn't turn one down if offered.

.33L emptied into a Pokal.

A: Pours yellow-gold with a fizzy 1-finger white head which quickly receeds to a thin ring. Spotty lacing at the top.

S: Sour barley malt, corn, hay, hops are tucked away.

M: Medium, bordering on light, body with good, biting carbonation.

T: Malt, grain flavors, with nice bitter-sweet flavors of grain balanced with earthy hops through the midrange. Dry finish with a spicy hopped aftertaste.

D: Very drinkable. Shares traits with German Pilseners. Not out of the ordinary, but it does offer some interesting twists. Worth trying.
