Blind-tasted... Note also: This beer is marked as 'Schremser Märzen' on both the main and neck lables. This contrasts with the near name-sake 'Schremser Edelmärzen' which (per that listing/photo) is marked on both with that longer name.
L- Light gold, pours clear with a 5mm white fine-bubble foam cap. ps@+10mins = holds well.
S- Some grain and a dry edge to it.
T- [1st sip of beer today] - Quite bright and dry on the front, some compensating malts come in and then back to a broad brush of hoppy dryness across the palate. The flavour is trad and perhaps a bit hoppier/brighter than the typical German Marzen.
F- I think when both are compared to my experience of German Marzen the hops are a bigger aspect in this Austrian one and also the malts are a smaller aspect, ...
O- ... these^ two combine into a lighter/lower malt/lower body and dryer beer. This for me also translates into less space for individual character. Plus less room for a subtle aspect of malty richness which balances the Taste/Feel of good Bavarian Marrzens so well. - As it is it's an easily drinkable 'daily lager', but there isn't much room for character, so no pressing reason to remember it, or buy it again, esp as something of a $-niche import abroad.
Review1977. 500ml bottle BB: 01/10/2021 £2.50 Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
