BOD 12/4/17. Pours a nice blood red with a significant amount of suspended matter. Normal head volume, lacing and retention.

Quite outstanding nose that delivers as advertised. Ginger and cardamom dominate the aromas, but in a delicious way. The base hints at sweetness with caramel notes and delivers a bit of pear and apple.

Light bodied with a smooth texture that provides a hint of oiliness. The carbonation/ body balance is outstanding. The middle provides ample effervescence for flavor separation with just enough tingle for the tongue. The finish falls short of rollicking but is finely bubbled and delivers on prickly.

The flavor profile fails to live up to the nose. Intensity is outstanding, balance is good while complexity gets hurt by a blended effect. Ginger is dominate and lingers in the finish with a nice burn. Cardamom is there but you have to search for it. The same is true for caramel. The middle needs more sweetness to create contrast. The apple and pear notes cannot be found. The finish appears to be dry due to ginger influence. There is no bitterness, per se, except that provided by ginger.

23 oz bottle with a 4 December 2017 bottling date.

Appearance: clear copper body with a short-lived off-white head.

Aroma: Strong ginger and a hint of cardamon.

Flavor: GINGER that's strong but not biting or overpowering, allowing some cardamon and faint malts to show.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body and near medium carbonation.

Overall: An amber modified into a ginger beer. Recommended for fans of this style.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a clear texture. There was a huge, fluffy, long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A whole lot of ginger in the aroma, but also a bit of malt as well.

T: Like the smell, the taste was dominated by ginger (quite powerful), but also had some caramel, light hops, malt, and an almost peppery quality. The ginger is definitely frontloaded here, to the point it nearly overpowers everything else. Nonetheless, there's a good amount of complexity here.

F: A highly carbonated beer (almost to a fault) with a lively, prickly finish. Light- to medium-bodied.

O: If you like ginger, give this one a try (if you can still find it), otherwise, steer clear.

A: The beer is clear amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short off white head that quickly died down, leaving some specks of bubbles on the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of ginger are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of ginger along with hints of spicy cardamom towards the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This an interesting take on Palmetto's Amber Ale. It quite drinkable for a holiday beer because it isn't spiced too much.

Palmetto Brewing Co. "Ginger Slap"
on tap at Craftsmen Tap House, 21 DEC 2014

Appearance: Slightly hazy copper body with brass accents beneath a pillowy head of white. Average head retention and lacing.

Aroma: Ginger and dark caramel.

Flavor: Ginger - sharp! Subtle, toasty malt underneath. Woody, dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light in body, and crisp. It works well with the ginger.

Overall: It can be one-sided, but it's also one of the best - it not THE BEST - ginger beer I've ever had. I will say though that I was not able to discern the cardamom from the ginger.

A coppery color (brown-orange) with a right, white head. Decent retentiothroughout ll is ginger, cardamom (Earl Grey tea), malt, wheat & grass.
Taste is almost the same, Earl Grey with ginger and grass. Good balanced.
Slightly astringent and drying. Medium plus body, with a bit of warming throughout.

From 02/27/15 notes, at the brewpub on tap.

HUGE ginger-bomb....not my thing. Ginger just dominates the nose and taste, taste especially. Wouldn't seek it out again.
