Festbocks are much better than the sweet double bocks or German dark bocks, this Austrian type is like an intensive märzen beer in my opinion. This one is no exception, although slightly malty sweet but still well balanced enough to make a drinkable, enjoyable good beer.

330ml bottle poured into tulip 20/5/12
A bright golden yellow with lots of suspended particles being moved around by bubbles of all sizes that feed a short lived finger of foam that leaves some random spider web lace
S some sweet corny malt with a little lemon, faint booze and a little honey with grassy hops
T mimics the smell quite well with just a little more booze, pretty basic but drinkable, a slight fruity aspect that I can't quite place is in there too
M medium bodied with decent carbonation, slight heat but still well concealed booze, corny aftertaste lingers faintly
O somewhat boring but not offensive, the booze is mellow but I'm just not all that impressed
the beers out of my "Best Of Bock" box aren't bad beers but I feel ripped off, should come with a warning "for tickers only"

330ml bottle, part of a 'Best of Bock' sample pack recently made available in the Alberta market. Best before June 2012, so best that I get at it, nein?
This beer pours a clear, medium bright golden yellow colour, with one finger of somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves but a few 'kleine' specks of lace around the glass as it duly settles.
It smells of sweet cereal grain malt, a mild sugary orchard fruitiness, a bit of cloying booze, and a soft leafy hoppiness. The taste is more boozy cereal grain, barley with some of that sticky corn filler goodness, and some subdued grassy and leafy hops.
The bubbles are a bit frisky at first, but seem to disappear into that boozy morass, the body a meekly middleweight affair, and kind of cloying in its alcohol-addled smoothness simulacrum. It finishes with an easing of the phenolic tendencies, showing more of the hardy cereal graininess, and forlorn noble hops.
Pretty much in line with the other "Festbocks" available around here from the German breweries (I know, this is Austrian) - a standard Euro-lager, puffed up on the booze and sweetness. Not really all that drinkable, it requires a bit of palate-priming, even though the weather outside is very appropriate for a beefed-up bevy, given the season.

.5L emptied into a Pokal.
A: Pours amber gold with a frothy 1-finger white head which receeds to a thin ring. Some lacing in the upper third of the glass.
S: Sweet barley malt, rich booze, subtle hops.
M: Medium body with little carbonation.
T: Sweet barley malt, corn, grain. Lemony through the middle. Some harsh hop and grain alcohol notes at the finish. Spicy aftertaste.
D: Straightforward Bock. This tastes just a little too rough for it's relatively low ABV, but certainly drinkable.

Comes in a standard brown half liter bottle with a green, white and red label featuring little more than the name. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 8/31/07, I opened it on 10/20/06.
Pours a crystal clear gold under a 1.5 finger white head that fades quickly, leaving a few strings and spots of lace. The nose is fairly strong of sweet barley. The mouth is rather heavy, slightly sticky and well-carbonated. Strong sweet barley malt flavor is chased by a mild metallic hops bitterness that then quickly fades, leaving a very short aftertaste. Alcohol is here in the form of a sickly sweet fruitiness (Globetrotterette thought there was a strawberry note), which leaves the longest impression. Perhaps a bit stronger than would be good for a quaffer, but not at all bad.
