Every Thursday Great Lakes Brewing Company serves a special firkin version of one of their beers. As their website states "Spend your Thursday evenings with Great Lakes Brewing Company for "FIRKIN THURSDAY"! Every week starting at 4PM in the Beer Cellar, GLBC will feature a special brew right out of the firkin! Maybe we'll dry-hop it, maybe we'll toss in some fresh fruit or herbs from Pint Size Farm. Any way we serve it, it's a one-night-only mystery beer affair." So yes, I had this beer on firkin tap. Served to me in a pint glass, this beer draws a very dark brown color with a tan/brown head 2/3 inch thick when first served to me. Eventually it settles to a reasonably sized thick ring lining the inside of the glass with some damn nice lacing. Aromas of roasted caramel malt sweetness along with hints of coffee and chocolate and a bit of the mesquite too of course. The taste is pretty much the same, with a hint of woody, BBQ'd sweet and spicy goodness that is all rounded out with a slight touch of hops. Has a slightly crisp and prickly, also smooth and creamy, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Quite a tasty affair indeed!
