Robust and complex, our porter is a bittersweet tribute to the legendary freighter's fallen crew--taken too soon when the gales of November came early. 37 IBUs

On tap - Dark, roasted, charred malts, black coffee, baking chocolate, cocoa, dark caramel, toffee, molasses, hint of dried dark fruit, with dank earthy herbal grassy piney hops

Pours a black color with a 1F tan head and moderate lacing.

Smells and tastes of coffee and dark chocolate with a lightly bitter finish.

Medium light body with light carbonation. Crisp, dry mouthfeel.

This is a relatively simple but tasty and nicely balanced brew.

One of the best porters Ive had: roasty without being bitter, malty without being overwhelming, and herbal without being weird. Very well balanced and subtle. Plenty of flavor that doesnt linger too long on the palette. A new favorite!

The color reminds me of Dr Pepper. Minimal tan head. Bright dried fruit taste first and then roasted flavor, little bit of chocolate and herbal bitterness. Well toasted bread. Not as carbon as a Guinness say. More caramel than coffee. Really good. Don't know what took me so long to try this one. Being from Ohio is the only mark against it.

Poured into a Nonic pint.

Pours very dark brown. Bright light will shine through it with a garnet/mahogany color. A modest foamy tan head. The head clears fairly soon, but the lacing has excellent staying power.

Aromas of roasted malt, faint coffee, and dark chocolate.

The brew is extremely flavorful but well balanced. Malty on the tip of the tongue, sharply roasted in mid-palate, and astringent on the finish, with just a bit of herbal/earthy hop. Nothing dominates. The flavors are admittedly simple, but when they are distributed with this much control, simplicity works perfectly, and clearly distinguish this as a porter versus a stout.

Certainly not "light" or "crisp," but the finish is pretty short for the style, and it drinks lighter than the style or ABV would normally indicate.

This is a top-flight, extremely drinkable porter that is the definition of what a true strong porter should be.

O - Delicious Porter.

Picked up a six pack of cans at Bradfords Liquors in Plymouth, Massachusetts for about fifteen dollars. My third brew reviewed from these guys. Best by date of May 2026. Solid porter, not world class.
